Portable Appliance Testing.
Firstly, can I thank you for visiting our website. We all hope that you find the pages both informative and interesting.
At Compas-PAT we recognise that Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is a necessary element of any company’s health and safety system and we have designed a system to ensure that you comply with all of the necessary legislation, but with the minimum disruption to your business.
My engineers are all externally trained and professionally qualified to perform the task and have, between them, conducted many thousands of tests on a vast variety of portable equipment.
Please do not hesitate contacting me, or any of the team, via the various routes found on our contact us page.
I look forward to receiving any comments, queries or enquiries you may have about our Portable Appliance Testing service and, hopefully, meeting you in the near future.
Best wishes

P.A.T. Testing Information.
P.A.T. (PAT) testing or portable appliance testing is a part of any businesses Health & Safety Policy.
General statistics state that over a quarter of all reported electrical accidents involve portable appliances.
The Electricity at Work Regulations
place a legal responsibility on all businesses, to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of this equipment. This means the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing (usually a routine inspection once a year).
The Health & Safety at Work Act places such an obligation in the following areas:
- 1. Where portable appliances are used by employees.
- 2. Where the public may use portable appliances in establishments such as shops, hospitals, schools, hotels, libraries etc.
- 3. Where portable appliances are provided, hired, serviced or repaired.
The level of inspection and testing required depends on the risk of the item becoming faulty. This in turn dependants on it’s type, it’s use and the type of environment in which it is used.
The “Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment” (HSE Approved Code of Practice). Is the guide that forms the basis for portable appliance testing in the U.K.
So to summarise, we at Compas-PAT we recognise that Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is a very necessary element of your safety system policy and have designed our system to ensure that you comply with all of the necessary legislation with the minimum disruption to your business.
